In 1997 the Imperial Dragons were founded by a group of 2nd and 3rd generation Chinese from and around the area of The Hague. They wanted to do something that´s both sportive and able to spread their Chinese culture to a wider audience. So the first Chinese Dragonboat Club in the Netherlands became to exist.

In their first year the Imperial Dragons made a big impression by inviting Jacky Chan at their debut tournament in Zoetermeer, to perform the ceremonial welcoming of their new boat.

In that same year the Imperial Dragons rowed at the hofvijver in The Hague to promote the World Corporate Games that were held the year after.

To support this team there was the creation of the FCDOE in 1998 (First Chinese Dragonboat Organisation Europe), with their main purpose to increase the popularity of the dragonboat sport, and to form a competetive team to join national and international tournaments. In 2000 the team had their first success at the dragonbootrace at SAIL 2000, where they won the B-final.

As of today the Imperial Dragons are still an enthousiastic and energetic team, with a diverse mix of members. The team trains once a week and also organises other activities as in going for dimsums, to the movies or a night of bowling. The main goal of the Imperial Dragons is to go beyond boundaries and striving to practise the dragonboat racing sport to a high level!
